Recently a friend (yes, I have a few) sent me a web posting that Microsoft Windows 12 may “Release” sometime in 2026. The scuttle-butt says it will be chock full of AI Copilot features as default.
That does not excite me, not even one micro-bit. (Whatever that might be… :))
No further Microsoft rant here. The train will pull out of the station with what I suspect will be a lot fewer passengers. I know I am not buying a ticket to ride.

There are several alternative computer operating systems I have installed on computers in my daily use. I have a choice of how I expect my personal computers to be “personal” and perform only the tasks I ask.
I actually have no desire to beat down Microsoft. I can let them wander off into the deep woods if they desire. I am not being forced to follow or have any ties to keep me on the train. Other “passengers” can make their own choice about new Win12 when it arrives.
I just canceled my Microsoft 365 Personal subscription as I haven’t used any MS Office tools for years. I was just letting the $100/yr, ride. I can easily do without what has become Copilot Headquarters.
I turned off OneDrive that had sucked up a lot of my files to “cloud only” storage to “save space” on my PC. Then feed them back to me on demand. I assumed it was back-up only. I have terabytes of empty space on that computer. Space savings not necessary. At some point MS changed default to cloud only storage, assuming I had tiny drives. Deleting local files.
I “caught on” when canceling MS365, I received warnings such action would delete all my files. Sure enough, the little icon cloud logo didn’t mean archived in cloud, it signals file only exists in the cloud. I brought all my remote files back home. Still “tons” of space.

I like using the Windows OS for my CAD programs. My 3D printer slicer and printer control applications work great on Windows 11. That engine is probably going to set at the station when they rollout V12. I don’t want/need any OS to do anything more than let me run the applications of my choice.
I am not in panic mode at all with the system changes going on with Microsoft. There must be a large number of users that need/like all the AI automation features. I am not one of them. I have OS options to let me stay in my comfort zone.
